Can anyone tell me what is going on with Morrison Springs? Is it still closed due to high bacteria count? Seems like it is close more than it is open.

Yes, it's been closed for several months now. And with all the rain we had today it will probably remain closed for a while longer.

There are a lot of other springs in the area still open. I was out ridding in my boat Sunday and Cypress spring was absolutely gorgeous. Makes me wish I had brought my dive gear.

How big of boat can you get into cypress spring? I have a 16ft wahoo and would love to go visit the spring. Is there a ramp near by to put in? And what are the water depths?
Thanks a bunch for any info on the springs!

Is the Wahoo a flat bottom boat? If so then you can get it in there. I can get my 16 foot wide beam jon boat in it with no issues. There is a ramp not too far where you can trailer a boat in. Max depth in the basin is about 25'. However, some areas of the spring run can get very shallow, hence the need for a flat bottom.

You can get a 16' Wahoo up that far. You might kiss a rock or two. Wahoo has been outta bidness for a while now unless someone bought the name.

Yep she's a 88 model but still running strong. It's not a flat bottom but has kind of a tri-hull design but has a very shallow draft. Good to hear! I'll def give it a shot this summer and check it out. It'll be worth it even if I bump a few logs hopefully no rocks though! :0

Well be careful. When the spring run is shallow you will not only bump some rocks you will scrape the limestone bottom. I wouldn't take anything but an aluminum boat up the run.

Using a SEB boat is a wise choice as well. Unless you own one, lugging a rental canoe can be a PITA. A SEB is Someone Else's Boat.

Haha yes . I like that. A SEB is always a good choice.
I saw a video on YouTube yesterday of cypress springs during the busy summer months I'm guessing because it was packed with boats in the video, some looked bigger than mine... Hopefully the water will be a little higher than normal when I give it a shot. Challenge #1 is getting the boat ready to be put back in the water!
