After some brainstorming at the last dive, and talking with Rick I wanted to field the idea of organizing some Beach Crab dives further south than usual. If you would or would not be interested let us know. If you are interested, try and give us your thoughts and an idea of what/when/where for the dives.

Seems cool to me to switch things up a bit from just hitting Malibu.

Yeah I would be all for BC dives closer to me :) Kinda torn though ,I voted Laguna because I would love some close to home dives but will actually dive anywhere I have time to make it. Would be nice to break it up some and not always have a 2 hour drive to dive. But I'm the exception, I know. I've just resigned myself to the long drives since I really like this group of people. I would surely not cry one bit though if now and then we moved a little south .. -Nick

Thanks for the input so far. I don't think we should change what is going on in the Malibu area, But ADD some additional dives to the schedule. Maybe a night dive on a night other than Wednesday and maybe do some Sunday dives instead of Saturday. Driving up North on the weekend is fine for me, but for a night dive, it probably isn't happening for me. Just imagine, 4 bc dives a week. it could be madness!

Redondo is a great site for night dives for the reasons Robert stated, and Laguna is great all the time. I don't have much experience with Palos Verdes but I want that to change.

I miss seeing Rick and Teresa's enthusiasm at Marineland! I work too many hours to spend all day diving lately, so I can't pull off a Ventura trip very often.

Redondo has parking, bathrooms, showers (outside) and easy entry/exit.

LOL. Man, bathrooms, showers, easy entries, sounds like boat divin':D

I've never dove the Redondo area and would be up for that area. I also would REALLY love to see some weekend night dives. There's no way I can make the two hour each way drive during the week for a night dive in Ventura or even the hour each way to Laguna.

Tell ya what...Just tell me where to dive and I'll be there..

Nick

Thanks Cody --- excellent idea...

If available, I'll dive anywhere.

Hey Rick, weren't you doing that a few years ago anyway? :14:
I remember going with you and taking some new divers (they now have way more dives and experience than me) in Laguna. Plus we did OML too with Melvin (that was a blast)...

I'm all for it. I agree with Cody & Robert regarding Vets/Redondo for night dives too. It kind of sucks for day diving, but at night it opens up and comes alive. Plus, for new "night" beach divers, Vets can't be beat for ease of entry and amenities. --- Just bring quarters :D

Okay, nuff said...

Sounds great!
Thank you, Cody, for stepping up.
I voted "I will dive anywhere"

If we do this, I want everyone to keep in mind, I started the BC's to be a safe place for new/unexperienced divers to meet experienced divers, and learn how to enjoy the great underwater world the ocean has to offer along the beaches. It has evolved into a weekly beach dive scheduling group, with new, as well as, experienced divers, and we have had attendances up to 25 people attend our monthly Picnic/Dives. Now we are forming another group! As I said, just keep the new divers in mind, and help them join in on the fun we have. We are the Premier Dive Group, lets keep it that way. Remember, no matter how good we think we are or how much experience we think we have, we are all new divers to this sport, to this ocean! Keep it safe, have fun, and share with others!

Now, I will get down off the soapbox:D
What I was thinking was to alternate days on weekends. That way anyone living in the north will dive closer, and anyone living in the south can dive closer. And hard cores and in betweens, can dive with both groups. I for one wouldn't mind diving down south, once again, as well.

Example:

BC's SoLA/OC dives- 1st weekend-sat, 2nd-sun, 3rd-sat, 4th-sun
BC's NoLA/VC/SBC dives- 1st weekend-sun, 2nd-sat, 3rd-sun, 4th-sat

Weekly night dives-alternate Wed's and Thurs's, each week.

Once a month - boat trip for everyone.

Once a month picnic/dive for scheduled in the north and one scheduled in the south.

Every three months(quarterly) a big get together for everyone, at a central spot.

Suggested Sites:

Southern LA County
Vet's Park
Malaga Cove
Marineland
White Point

The OC
Reef Point
Crescent Bay
Shaw's Cove
Fisherman's Cove
Divers Cove
Heisler Park

Please feel free to add to or delete:wink:

As a side note: San Diego is the next area we will organize. Any volunteers?

Rick

thanks for that Rick, that is what I was thinking too. It seems like there is enough interest that maybe we can get a night dive going for next week. With the dive sites in PV a bit finicky with conditions, it might be wise to schedule the PV area dives on a more fluid basis. Maybe a mindset of 'Marineland* unless it isn't favorable then it will be ____.'

The crabs better stay directed with the new diver in mind, I am one of those newish divers man!
