Cool pics ! Can someone here clarify that it is now the time of year for them to spawn ?

The scientists we work with say the actual spawn peak is when the new moon phase hits(total darkness). This allows them to release eggs and fertilize them without giving predators the opportunity to consume them. New Moon phase is this Friday August 17th. Like everyone else has been posting, the conditions are top to bottom viz and 81 degree warm water. Spend those frequent flyer miles this week and come diving with us !!

I like Jupiter Dive Center. Amazz is a DM for Scuba Works boat (I think) and a lot of divers like that operation too, though I've never been out with that particular boat. Either would be good for Jupiter dives. Interestingly, on Tunnels (a reef site) there were very few Goliaths yesterday while the week before we saw 18 together on the south end of the reef.

In WPB, Jim Abernathy is also a good operation as is Narcosis.

With any of these, you'll want to clarify that they plan to head to a wreck like the Zion train, MG111 or Mizpah/Amarillis (sp?) if conditions permit. I did a dive on the MG 111 a few years ago in early Sept. and it was near magical as well. Diving with Goliath Grouper at Wreck of MG 111 in Jupiter Florida - YouTube The Mizpah (in WPB) can also be awesome this time of year: last year there were at least 25 on the wreck at one point in the late summer/early fall.

Thanks again !! Just the exact info I'm looking for. Much appreciated :)

Again, great info ! And trust me, I'm looking real hard at it right now. This week might be tough, but I assume they will be hanging around for a couple of weeks ? At this point I think I'm looking at Labor day weekend.

I did two tanks this afternoon on the Castor off of Boynton Beach. Saw about 40 Goliaths on each dive. The second dive at 3 pm had the strongest current I have experienced in a while. Also a thermocline of 70 degree water. Weeeeeeee! What fun!

We did not experience the thermocline in Jupiter but a friend at work told me there was one just a little north and it was in the 60's.

You should be good for a couple of weeks; after spawning they'll probably hang around for some period of time, but the schools might be a little smaller. Many of the wrecks have full time GG residents on them as well: even if you only see 5 or 6 in one setting, they are still impressive beasts.

has about a dozen goliaths. On the Jenny, they are stacked underneath. Yep, the Zion is definitely the place to be. The MGIII is loaded up as well. The are stacked on the pilings. I'm going to try to hit Hole in the Wall soon to see what's happening out there. Great diving in Jupiter this time of year.

57 degrees on top of the reef (120ft) yesterday as reported by Jupiter Dive Center. :cold: Only two fish spotted in or around the hole. They headed to the shallows...

This is some video i shot last week, on a local wreck off WPB... if you don't want to see spearfishing... you can skip to 5;40 or so to see some Go pro vid of the Goliaths:
