7 Stitches? Holy crap that would suck. I hope all is well.

The one time I almost got bitten was my fault. I was in Key Largo and a big Eel was inside a small reef cave. I could see a bit of his tail and barely a spot of his head. I thought that if I poked his tail, his head would come out more. On the second poke, he turned around and just barely missed my glove. Completely my fault.

my thoughts exactly...unless you hassle the animal i don't see how it can bite you

The that bit me was a Black Spotted Moray ,they are known to be aggressive and have poor eyesight it might have mistaken my hand as prey . I never "hassled" it even after it bit me.
 
The Spotted Morays have poor eyesight? Okay, that's it--I'm wearing my jockstrap and protective cup under my wetsuit from now on!
