The moonfish with which I am familiar (AKA opah) is a true bony fish.
See for example: http://www.state.hi.us/dbedt/seafood/opah.html

Are you sure you don’t mean moon jelly?
See for example: http://www.mbayaq.org/efc/living_species/print.asp?inhab=442

Edit: Among the so-called “true jellies” are those that sting severely (example, warty jelly)
http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/other/pelagia_noctiluca.html
those that sting less (example, moon jelly), and those that don’t sting at all (example, cannonball jelly) http://crd.dnr.state.ga.us/content/displaycontent.asp?txtDocument=347

Moon jelly's are all over the place in New Jersey. A marine biologist friend told me that they don't sting.

Yeah they're up here on the Cape...its pretty cool to hold them. They're quite pretty when you're swimming below them...much prettier than swimming below jellies if you know what I mean...

No, no. I did some research and it is actually called the "sea gooseberry" or more commonly known as the comb jelly. Its a neat little creature to observe and play around with in good visibility. I have attached a few pictures of them.

If they're the same jellies that are in the Carib, SE US and Hawaii than the Moon Jelly's stings are so minor most people cannot feel it. People with sensitive skin should avoid rubbing the jellies on sensitive parts of their bodies though....and in really large numbers they've made me itchy.

I have to admit I was a little disappointed by this thread: I was envisioning some sort of celebrity death match between a [giant?] moon jelly and a opah....

But it is almost Opah season again! And me with a new boat, oh darn! May have to harvest one for the freezer. My fav as well as Ks and Catherine said it was hers too. Screw em, Im not sharing! LOL
