Thanks for the quick reply Chug and One. It seems a little counter-intuitive but thank goodness regulators can handle it. These kinds of answers help with the pre-scuba jitters :)

Even with my small number of dives I've seen people puke at depth twice. It's totally survivable, just keep the reg in your mouth. And watch the fish...

Throwing up through a regulator, while it sounds dramatic, is really not a big deal. You can clear any liquid you want with an exhale or the purge button.

Puke in yer reg....errr...octo.

It works just fine.

Chug
Did that a few times.

My primary IS my octo. So, I'm screwed in any case.

One of the reasons I suggest people buy regs early.
Lot's of times, a "rental" rinse doesn't get the solids (chunks) out. I equate it to a building drain. Too much slope is not always a good thing. The fluids wash away easily, but the solids (toilet paper and such) get hung up.

But chunks are harder to clear, so chew your food properly before diving! :D

And watch out for your photog friends... puking makes you VERY popular with the fishes.

My father in law tried that maneuver. The ..uhm.."hammer", floated up inside his rash guard between the nylon and his back. He did not realize it until he got back on the boat.

:rofl3: WITH him, not AT him :)

heh.. years ago, I even had a post deleted just for mentioning the name... (name only... not posting the pic).

The board is not so delicate these days :)

Thalassamania:
warhammer maneuver" (where does that term come from?

In the early days of ScubaBoard, a photo of a diver taking a dump was posted by a young man who happened to have the screenname of Warhammer. The act took his name and he more or less disappeared soon after.
