I did an Open Water class at Breakwater this morning (dives 1 & 2), and it wasn't too bad. There were several classes in progress (naturally) and everybody seemed to be surviving quite well. Visibility was about 15', and it was quite surgy. But it wasn't so bad that we couldn't safely take students out for their first dive ever. There were 4 instructors along, so we went one-on-one or one-on-two. We started out at Lover's, but the surge really looked too bad there for teaching. That's when we bailed and went back to Breakwater. People were actually surfing at Lover's...never a good sign. Anyway, it was a gorgeous day down there today. The diving was ho-hum, but the weather was beautiful.

I'll second that, nice and warm above and below. We dove off the Escapade right out in front of the aquarium. They said the water was a little more choppy than average, several poor souls weren't feeling all that good. Didn't check the temperature, but my dive computer will tell when done taking its bath. First cold water dive for me and I'm wondering what all the fuss is about wet vs dry suits. The dives were never cold for me in my 7 mil set up. Cool first dives for me in Monterey, for sure I'll be back.

We did Lobos Saturday. It was pretty crappy in the cove, but cleared up nicely at the end of the cove / outside. We figured we got 40'+, at 130'. We used a bit of gas getting out and back so we didn't have to fight the kelp, so decided against a second dive.

Max Depth, 108
Temp, 50F

I ended up diving with a group at Macabee Beach on Sunday. It was surgy, but fun. Vis was about 15' max. Water temp on my computer read 57. A fun, but unremarkable, day....

thanks for the input...

wtaer temp was 48 at lobos on sunday, it was damn cold according to my buddy in his wetsuit, i don't remember the last time i heard him complaing about the cold.., 57 in a wetsuit is nice and warm, in 48F you'll get chilly even in a drysuit..

My DS was totally flooded after the first dive and I was freeeezing, but I stuck with it cause it was such a good dive. We easily had 40' vis and 60' vertical.

I shivered the whole surface swim in ....

BTW, it was nice to meet mossym, ishie, peter, jim and jim's buddy (missed his name) on Sunday!

What was the cause of your drysuit flooding?
