I called the Monterey Health Dept and they told me Pt Lobos is included in the contamination warning. Their next water test would be 72hr after the forecast storm so probably Tuesday at the earliest.
I also called the Pt Lobos dive line and was told by them that they are planning to be open for diving tomorrow and would perform a water test then (??) to decide what to do for Sunday. Uncertain if they're doing a separate test of their own.

Dove with Raftingtigger at Lobos today. When I climbed the bluff for a look-see I noticed a lot of brownish water out in the bay. There was a distinct boundary---roughly on a line between Bird Poop Rock and Granite Point---with blue water in Whaler's and brown beyond. The viz wasn't good in Whalers, though, with a lot of crud in the water so there may be some mixing.

I was wearing my Viking Haztech suit today...maybe I'm safe, eh?

Found this article about the closure. Hope it's true so I can finish my OW cert.

The closure order will be in effect until three days after the next anticipated rainstorm, which is expected to hit the area by late Saturday.

That’s according to Susan Rimando, a supervising environmental health specialist with the Monterey County Health Department.

Monterey County beaches closed until after weekend storm

Blueringocto, the ocean will still be here. Frustrating but you will get to finish eventually. Make sure to go slow and have FUN. Once you are certified check out Monterey Bay Sea Otters dive club, and Monterey Bay Area Scuba Divers Open on Facebook. You can get buddies that way.

Ok, so if anyone could find out if the beach closure has been lifted that would be swell(pun intended). Besides wanting to finish cert. I had booked a hotel for last weekend that has been moved to this weekend.

They want me to tell them today if I need to move my booking again.

There was a scheduled event at Pt Lobos, starting tomorrow through Friday - I just received notification from the event organizer that all 3 days are cancelled due to bacterial contamination concerns.

Just checked the Monterey health dept. website for San Carlos Beach. Looks like forever and a day to get a weekend at that beach now.

AS OF 2/28/2017 SAN CARLOS BEACH IS CLOSED. THE PUBLIC IS ADVISED NOT TO HAVE OCEAN WATER CONTACT AT THIS TIME.

Bamboo Reef dive shop in Monterey called the health dept. today and was told they tested the water this morning and will call them back as soon as they get the results. They close at 5PM and I called the dive shop at 5:20PM but they had not heard yet. It seems Bamboo Reef is the only dive shop that answers their phone. Maybe the city will update their website once the water tests are in. Like many of you I'm anxious to go in the water. It's been a while.
