We're talking 1986 here, right? 20 years ago? There are bites at that beach almost annualy. There and surfers in Santa Cruz.
There are not shark attacks at Monastery almost annually. That's the only one I can
remember. And DFG agrees, see: http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mrd/sharkdata2.pdf

And not in Monterey either.

Well, as you can see from my above post, I've all ready admitted my mistake, but if it makes you feel better, I'll admit it again. One LAST time. I was wrong. Ok?

I grew up in the Bay Area, and I remember media reports almost every year (IT SEEMS) of attacks happening in Santa Cruz, Monterey, etc. For a fuller explanation of my confusion on Monterey and Monastery Beach, please read my previous, apologetic post. If that's not enough for you, PM me and we'll meet at dawn with sabers.

Just looking at that list Chuck posted.
Yikes! A scuba diver was killed by the man in the gray suit in 40ft. of water at Stillwater Cove! Another at Pt.Lobos in 40ft.

Thats great. So much for my naive little notion that I'm safe when not on the surface. Just what I needed to know.

I didn't want to take the damn red pill!

Probably the best beach dives I've done anywhere. The life is abundant and huge there, viz is frequently the best I've had anywhere in Monterey. It's just a bugger of a dive lately with horrid weather and large swells. Glad, and amazed, you were able to get out recently and enjoy this place. I don't mind the entry too much as I just time it and then hop on in past the surf zone...no biggee usually. But that EXIT, that is always an adventure with that hidden step up and the heavy waves.

Wish I hadn't just looked at Chuck's pdf of history of GW attacks...my secret fear exposed.

When I posted that, your post wasn't visible. Dunno why.

But even confusing Monterey with Monastery, it's not anually.

Note the columns labeled "Mode" and "Injury".

Not one of the attacks on SCUBA divers has been fatal. Sea lion emulation
(freediving) is another story.

Note that's Stillwater on the North Coast, not Carmel Bay, and was non-fatal.

And the attack at Pt. Lobos was non-fatal. For the details, see:

Be sure to read the shark's point of view in the second link. ;-)

Well thats not what I wanted this post to become but oh well. Glad to see other people liked it! Im planning to try it tomorrow morning, looked like it could be good when I was there earlier today, (NEVER working another Sat again!)
