Someone has posted on ba_yahoo groups that they found a blue Mares Volo fin at Monastery N. Could be your buddy's.
Good Luck. Too bad you had such a horrible experience at Monastery. Hopefully you'll have a chance to try it again someday. Premier dive spot on the west coast accessible from shore.

Damn, sounds like you had fun but don't ever tell me how awesome Monestary is! I got caught in the washing machine on Sunday. Swells were okay until the second we entered. My BC got clogged with sand/rocks from kicked up by the swells. My back purge valve was stuck open. At least I knew I was neutrally bouyant as I didn't sink. I wasn't floating either.

I handed my buddy my fins for a second so I could get my footing and get out. We got hit by another huge swell. My dive buddy lost her fins and mask. (forever!) We both had our regulators torn out of our mouths. We both almost lost our lives just entering that beach.

The DM called the dive for all 6 of us right then and there. Yeah I am going to give it a few years before I ever try to dive that beach again.

Yeah I sent him a message around 12:00 and have not gotten anything back yet. That is her fin for sure!
