What about this? 42 oz at Walgreen for $3.79...

This material will work - it is a refill pack for the plastic container. I would suspect you could pour the contents inside a zip-lock bag and put your MMs inside and it would work. I'd suggest double bagging to minimize any intrusion of outside, humid air - in order to prolong the life of the DampRid.

My concern with all of the heat methods is any distortion of the container or casing of the MM may allow some dust or material to come out. If this comes in contact with the o-ring seal the results could be devastating... for a $1 item.
So I am going 100% with TN_Traveler here. I like the chemical solution.... or I will just buy more as I need them.

I'm relatively new to MMs, but so far, I think I am leaning towards making my own- silica gel is available is decent quantities, but I still have to find/make a container that will contain the gel and still allow air to pass...

I plan to remove the gel so that I can nuke it in the microwave without melting the container.

This solves several problems at once:
1) I am too lazy to nuke the MM on low power, on, off, on, off, on, off, lather rinse repeat
2) I am too cheap to keep buying new ones, plus the disposable mindset doesn't appeal to me
3) I'm too impatient to wait for the Dri-Rid or oven to dessicate the pinkies.
4) I likes the DIY route. :D

I've seen some websites that put the silica gel in resealable cloth bags. This might be a viable option. I've also looked for little lab vials and porous plastic, but they seem to only be available in bulk quantities.

I have some other ideas..
dri-box - desiccants - SorbentSystems.com This might be too big for some housings

I think simply putting them in little ziplock baggies would work too since the bags don't have an airtight seal. I think I would probably have to get larger silica gel beads.

The white aquarium airstones might work. These are essentially porous plastic tubes that aerate the water in aqauria, but they might be too small to hold enough silica gel.

You are not supposed to do it, however I have been putting mine in an oven set on warm for about 1/2 hour, and check them from there. I have no problems at all with that, but you are responsable for your own equipment.....

The one I nuked that did not explode changed by to lavender. The oven method seems better than the microwave, but I think I'm getting some Damp Rid.

Random thought here, what about a food dehydrator? Or would you just end up with MM jerky :rofl2:

Ber :lilbunny:

I like the idea of the dry rid too. the reheat and reheat seems like it would break it down faster.
Has anyone ever tried clay kitty litter?

The dry rid way does sound MUCH better, cheaper also with electricity. How long does one container last just using it this way I wonder?

Not something I'd want to have rub off inside my housing.

I haven't tried the Damp Rid yet, can't get it until I go to Lubbock next week, but he makes it sound very feasible.

After a year of having the camera, rejuvinating MM's at 170F in the oven without losing a single MM, I think I'll stay with my process.

I hope each of you can find something that works for you...
