I just go onto priceline and find the cheapest 2+ star hotel. Haven't been disappointed.

Yeah, what he said. I've probably stayed in 20 different Monterey hotels over the years and, in the two star range, one is as good as another.

Another vote for Lone Oak - can't beat the nice gear-washing facilities as well.

I have stayed 3 times at the Monterey Hostel. It's like $28 a night for a dorm room. That's my vote if your trying to go budget.
