Hi Everyone -

I had a great time diving with you all!

Any chance anyone remembers the names of the dive sites we visited at the Coronados Islands? I like my dive log to be complete :D

Thanks,

Gerard

Dive #1 - Keyhole, on Coronado Norte
Dive #2 - Lobster Shack, on Coronado Norte
Dive #3 - Puerto Cueva (aka Lois's Crack), on Coronado Medio

Actually, the 3rd site wasn't technically ON Coronado Medio ... it was just across from the middle island. It's still considered "middle grounds", though. I don't know the name of that little rock. Anyone ?

I don't know the name of the little Rock Rick, but what I find really interesting about this chart is how deep it gets so fast in the SW corner of the map. Assuming those depths are in fathoms, we're talking 1,800 ft. depth in a very short distance from the islands. Upwelling from those depths makes for some cold dives but good vis in the winter. Too bad it's so fished out, though.

Yeah you're right, John. Always seems a bit colder at depth down there. I did finally find a reference the 3rd area ... the general location is just referred to as "Middle Rock".

I'd always heard the middle portion was called La Mesa. I did a few dives there and that's what the DM's on the boats were calling it. Of course, that could be just a name for a portion of Middle Island.

John,

I believe that La Mesa (aka Table Tops) is the name of the series of ledges toward the northern end of the middle island. The spot we did a few weeks back was directly across the channel from La Mesa ... off that small island (or big rock). First time I've dove it. There's a little UW cave/cavern at the back of a small little cove.
