I'm not going to apply any more force than I already did, I'll try the soaking hot/cold/rinse/repeat and see how it goes.
Bigger hammer ...???

I started playing with the two MK5's I have, and noticed they have slight differences. Apparently one is an MK5 S.P.E.C. (Based on the pictures at the Reg Museum) Can someone tell me exactly what the SPEC part is and if it affects servicing?
Thanks again. I was able to get the cap off, it is the yoke retainer than won't budge. The parts of this reg are pretty gunked up. When I pulled the piston out, it doesn't look like the o-ring is up in the shaft, I just see the groove. My other MK5 is in great condition. If your MK5 looks like the one in the photo you post on this thread, you don't have the one that awap was referring to, I believe. There's a MK 5 with an extra cap around the ambient chamber for environmental sealing. Yours is just the later MK5; they might have called it a "SPEC" version because the holes in the ambient chamber are smaller to prevent the thick grease from leaking out too much.
There's no difference in terms of service or disassembly. You just need to make sure you have a spanner that grabs the holes well, and do the soaking/heat/cold as awap suggests.

Oh yeah, sorry. For this, if you have a good vise, you can clamp the yoke nut in the vise, slip a length of pipe over the reg body (you'll want to protect it with some thick tape or inner tube or something) and twist the body off the nut. It should give you the leverage you need. Have you tried that yet?
This is a good time to remind all those who have not signed up that
