I just got my reg back from being serviced and dove it this weekend. It breathed wet, and has never done that before. I could not find any tears or cracks in the mouthpiece, and I don't know what could cause the wet breathing.

I know everyone will tell me to bring it back to the shop, (which I am planning to do), but I wonder if it something so minor, I could check it and fix it myself.

Thanks in advance!

The MK25 is the first stage. I doubt that was the problem. It sounds like it is a problem with the second stage. There could be several reasons for it breathing wet, from the diaphragm being torn or slipped, it could be the exhaust valve,... the list goes on. Those are thin membranes to keep the water out. Definitely have the shop check it over & make it right. I know my MK25/ S600 will breathe wet about 50% of the time when I'm inverted upside down. Nothing serious, just a few drops here & there. More of a bother than a problem to me.

Tammy is correct. The usual suspects are a small hole or tear in a diaphragm, a diaphragm that has slipped off it's seat, an exhaust valve that is turned under, torn or warped, or a leaking case o-ring.

If it is just back from service, I'd suspect the first two.

Try taking a breath on it while the dust cap is tightly in place. If you can draw air, there's a leak and that's where the water's coming in. You can try taking the cover off the 2nd stage, it just screws off. There might be a little plastic pin holding it in place, if so you'll have to pry that out. Once you have the cover off, take the diaphragm out and stretch it in front of a light, looking for a pin hole. Have a look at the exhaust valve from the inside to make sure it's seating correctly. You won't be able to see it from the outside unless you remove the exhaust tee with a small allen wrench. They usually don't replace the exhaust valve at annual service, but it still might be dislodged in some way. Put the diaphragm back in the same way it came out, make sure it's seated correctly, and put the cover back on. There's a plastic friction ring that sits on the diaphragm, don't forget that.

If you can get a little air, but not much, meaning the reg was breathing just a little wet, I would especially check the seal between the mouthpiece and the flange it attaches to. Personally I hate those SP mouthpiece clamps; if you have one I'd get rid of it and use a ziptie, nice and tight.

Or you can just bring it back and have the guy fix it.
