You'd think it would just just result in a bubble or two out of the ambient holes but I've used this technique to cure IP problems on regs that had recent service and clean piston edge.
 
I don't think polishing or de-glazing the piston shaft cures creep, but it does help with IP rise with higher tank pressures. It reduces friction between the HP o-ring and piston; this friction greatly increases with high pressure because the o-ring gets pushed against the piston with more force.

To this day I can't figure out why some MK10s creep a few PSI after sitting around.
