Thanks for posting info on Aquarius. However, the nasa site is about the global sea surface salinity, not about Aquarius Reef Base.

The July mission is "Celebrating 50 Years of Living Beneath the Sea", led by Dr. Sylvia Earle. This is an educational and outreach mission that will help launch our efforts to establish the Aquarius Foundation to transition ARB from NOAA to the foundation and engage a new operational partner to replace UNCW.

This is an important project for the scientific world, as it is the only working undersea research station on the planet. Last month NASA NEEMO16 was here, with 4 astronauts that became aquanauts for their mission.

The FB page is here: https://www.facebook.com/AquariusReefBase
The new page for Aquarius Foundation, which is trying to raise funds to keep ARB open and functioning is here:

For a great video about the upcoming mission, check this out:

Column about a mission last August about Ocean Acidification is here:

If you want more information, just PM me here on SB. I am a member of the Advisory Board and will be able to provide additional info for you.

I _thought_ I saw the video on nightline (?) last night.. It was on some channel anyway.... what intrigued me was the diving aspect... and the reef... It was incidental that I had just read an article on the fact that there is an ongoing study about reef death and rebirth over a 6,500 yr period that was rather fascinating.

Wish you guys buckets of good luck... its a great project. It is a great thing to have right where it is.. thanks for being there, doing what you do.

Thank you Magnolia3. There has been some good coverage on the internet, but I have not seen anything on TV - I don't watch much news. These next couple weeks it's a good bet there will be a lot of coverage of the July mission.

There is a very dedicated group here trying to keep Aquarius in the water and functioning. Thanks for your interest, and please pass the word around!
