Sunday afternoon I ran a gap line on the Gaskin from the end of the shore line to the anchor chain. It was tied off nicely and left to connect the line for an easy route back home from the wreck.

After completing our dive my buddy and I went to leave, only to find someone had reeled in my line and made off with my reel. As you can imagine, I was pretty upset. Not by the fact that I lost a piece of dive gear, but that people would take a piece of gear that in some instances could be a person's lifeline to the surface or out of danger. Luckily this was not the case in this situation. Luckily I did'nt leave my stage bottles there either....

If anyone knows where my reel is please let me know. For others, please use this as a learning opportunity. Just because gear is left somewhere it does not mean it is abandonned, leave it where you find it.

Wow, that is insane, some dumb@#$ probably thought he scored........

DPV...

What did it look like ? ( just in case we see someone walking around with it )

Unfortunately I don't think would prove much. Unless you have a very distinctive reel that makes it different than other reels, you pretty well have to see the guy making off with it.

I hear what your saying Warren... You're probably right. I guess I am the eternal optimist and that the guy was new and made a mistake and would return it. All we can do it hope.

It is a Diverite Explorer reel. The red one with 250 ft of line on it. Big Stainless dog clip.

Well, still doesn't hurt to keep an eye out. Those reels could be fairly common. But the clincher would be if you had your name or initial on it.

Tar & feathers, or burning at the stake?
I think maybe castration is in order here, assuming the robber is male. I really don't like peple who steal. :devil_2:

Hi Warren,

No name on the reel however it may be something I do from now on. Perhaps I need to put John Reekie style "This gear is not abandonned" decals on everything.

On another note, I didn't start this thread as a means to get my reel back. I started it to point out a serious safety concern and hopefully educate some people on what not to do.
