Been there years ago. Others need to read it.I knew the man.One mistake on my part.He started it in 1952 not in54.I checked my notes. The shop in caly assumes the original started in 51.They weren't there till the 70's.

So the published oral history is wrong? "Late 1950s" is what it said.
Read what? "Others need to read it"

Yes it is wrong.HDS also has a story on him.I will let you know what issue tomorrow. Also a seller on ebay decodiver worked there. You can write and ask him also if you like.Russ kolifrath.

Guess I should have checked with you first.Being from Japan an expert on u.s. scuba history.

No, I don't really care. No thanks.
If it is important to YOU then YOU do the research and document it and stop griping about anybody who questions your memory.

I think what this thread needs is an actual expert in SoCal dive history. Paging @Sam Miller III ...please offer up another wonderful history lesson.

My memory is fine.I don,t make up stuff like some people.HDS #55 has a tribute to Jim.No mention of start up dates. In the book Diary of the Depths.By the late Robert Ellis Cahill Jim,s younger brother. On the Preface page.States in 1952 Jim became a professional scuba diver and began instructing many others in the science of scuba. So the joker who said they were in Los Alamitos in 1951 is wrong.I guess in can't compare to all the google internet experts out there. If it isn't on the net.It must be a lie or not real.I guess my collecting for over 20 years. One of the best collections in the country with thousands of dive books ,mags and catalogs doesn't mean a thing to the people who can only say just post a link.I will always call out the BS ers when I see them.To my fellow collectors and historians have a great day.

So the joker who said they were in Los Alamitos in 1951 is wrong.
Nobody said that. What was said was that New England Divers started in 1951 (per their website and Facebook page....not someone's memory or inaccessible/unverifiable collection), and currently has a shop in Los Alamitos.
