Went out on the Cape Ann Diver I on Saturday morning for a 2 tank charter to Halfway Rock (dive 1) and Legendowski (dive 2). Beautiful day and very calm conditions on the 45 minute trip down to Halfway. We saw more fishing boats at Halfway than any other dive trip I've taken there....there must have been about 8 boats when we arrived. As a result, instead of the normal circumnavigation, we stayed on one side. Nothing particularly noteworthy seen, but lots of lobster. Dive time 50 minutes, max depth 58 feet, water temp 54 F.
Dive 2 was on Legendowski, my buddy and my first time there....and apparently Capt. Jim's first trip there as well. This site was discovered during a recent exploration dive led by a local dive shop owner. It appears to be 1-2 miles north-northeast of Halfway...although not sure of the exact distance. We spent quite a bit of time criss-crossing the area using the GPS coordinates and sonar before Jim was happy we were in the right spot. Legendowski is a big slab of granite that drops off from 40-60 down to about 120. As we dropped down the anchor line, we didn't hit bottom until almost 80 feet....where the heck is the wall.....oh, right behind us! We rose back up on top of the wall to about 60 feet and found some moderate current...deciding to kick into the current for about 15 minutes before heading back to the anchor. There was no mooring on this site when we arrived...one of the divers on the boat tied a new one off to a rather huge encrusted chain that is hanging off the side of the wall. No noteworthy marine life seen, but very cool topography. At the end of the dive we lost sight of the anchor line and ascended the new mooring line...leaving us with a little surface swim back to the boat. very nice dive. Dive time 37 minutes, max depth 78 feet, water temp 52F at the bottom.
I put together a video of pictures/video footage...just over 4 minutes.
