Male diver dies on Mendocino coast
One person died Saturday morning in a diving accident along the Mendocino County coast, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

The accident was reported about 8:40 a.m. at Bowling Ball Beach near Point Arena, Captain Greg Van Patten said.

Emergency crews were called to help a diver in distress in a rocky area near the shore, he said.

A man believed to be 58 years old was pulled from the water and died at the scene despite life-saving efforts, Van Patten said.

His name was not released.
