Jamdiver:
Camera shake was a problem, so I had to control my breathing and position myself so there wasn't any shake....

great pics Jam... thought you had a tripod already? Or pick up a monopod... really helps at 300mm! glad you're getting more use out of that lens than I did!

I have a tripod, but hardly use it.
Anyway even I had my tripod, i'm sure it would have flown away by the time I set it up! :D
Monopod is a good idea, i'll put it on my list, there's some motorsports shots that I want to take in the future.
And panning is on the list of things that I want to learn

Also when I compare the shots with ambient light to those with the flash.
The ones with the flash really brought out the irridescent greens in the birds plumage...

Thanks jonix and caloy, always appreciate your comments. In fact I thrive on them :). Thanks for the thought kristin but it's ok if they get lost, I like the interchange here.

I like the interchange here.
Me, too!

Imagine if we could get that happening on individual posts and for other members and if other members (who now avoid this thread for the most part) could participate, too ;)

Those are really nice, Ken. Love the first little green guy, and the nudi is beautiful.
