Let he who hath understanding reckon the mark of the tech diver, for 'tis a man, and his number 16/66.

What he's saying is that the ten things on his list are somehow reliable indicators that a person is a tech diver.

What I'm saying is that if that's true, then this is a reliable indicator that the person wearing it plays shortstop for the NY Yankees...

Your argument is misleading. It's a given that a person not wearing that hat is not the short stop for the Yankees. Those wearing the cap can probably be considered "fans" or a Yankees wannabe.

For every real tech diver, there are ten wannabes. Many of those wannabes wear the tech hat. You can always tell the real deal by how they play/dive. Often, one of the wannabes crosses over. There is no shame in being a wannabe.

Rather odd negative attacks on a well meaning post. To the objectioners what bullet points belong in the recreational realm besides basic nitrox? :dontknow:

one thing is that i'm a "stage/deco" technical diver -- and while i've come a long way, but i'm still a baby technical diver, i'm nowhere near at the 'zenith' of technical diving.

i think a lot of the reaction that you're getting might be due to the somewhat 'breathless' descriptions given to the bullet points...

I am not the OP. I was just feeling a bit benevolent towards an infrequent poster from abroard. As most of you know I am very much still a tec diving neophyte who normally just lurks in the tec threads...

And the mark shall appear in black ink, on duct tape, and it shall be apparent to all!

LOL

Tech Diving Lore
and to all intents and purposes it is a benchmark for what level of Technical diver you are.

Going by this statement the list is of no value at all IMO. What does it all mean? Is this the system DIR divers use to evaluate new team members? Do you put yourself somewhere on the scale of 1-10 or do you collect points (and can you trade those points in on flights to tech dive locales)?

I read the article linked at the bottom of DivingLores sig and it just seems like the author is trying to impress newbies with how "unique" tech diving is (gotta get one of those bungied wings...).

As some others have said, who cares about ranking ones "techiness". Such attempts should rank one at zero.

real tech divers usually start out as a tech diver wannabe...

i've never understood the bashing on tech diver wannabes that occurs online... typically it reflects worse on the old fart dishing it out...

Usually. Hard to imagine someone going to all the trouble and cost if they didn't "wannabe" a tech diver.
