Right now, that's considered a "concept". We will see if it goes through.

"Another concept, with a proposed variation of 100 percent, is the quotas paid to enter the protected natural areas, many of them in Quintana Roo.

For example, in the case of the Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park, it would go from 108.66 pesos to 217.32 pesos."

another tax / cost / reason not to go there anymore

An extra $5 is going to kill it for you. Where in the Caribbean is cheaper than CZM (overall, with lodging, food, transportation)?

Just out of curiosity, what is the increase goal/purpose? Is it to police the area; sustainability of the ecosystem; Coral restoration programs? Or just plain money in some politician's pocket?

Ive heard that fees will double for Cozumel in 2025. Right now its around $5 usd a day 109 pesos. Planned to be around 217 pesos in 2025. These increase will affect all the parks in Quintana Roo and will be different amounts. Fee Increases Quintana Roo 2025
So 2/3 to the military and 1/3 to the federal treasury, wonder what the local Park guard will be charging the not checking.

Thanks for posting this. Will this help keep unpermitted boats out of the park or poachers out? Asking for a friend.. :)

Costs have gone up everywhere and 10$ is still a drop in the bucket compared to what other places charge for daily access. But yes $10 / 217 pesos would be disappointing. Do dive operators have any sort of input here? I would guess not since CONANP is national?

I still buy the yearly CONANP Conservation Passport which covers the marine park permits. Unfortunately that is now 1,811.01 MXN (89.19USD). That would mean ~9 dives (right now the break even is ~18 dives) in the marine park covers the yearly pass which I typically do more than in a year. I wonder if the price for that will increase as well?

have had this conversation before. no, 5 bucks aint gonna kill anyone. but there have been a bunch of extra taxes, increased costs etc added to the cost of a trip to that island in the past few years. it all adds up. but like i always say....the power is with the consumer. as long as travelers keep ignoring these added costs and price increases and keep going there, they will just keep adding new ones.
