I loved my Volos -- until I started diving double 104s -- then they just didn't have the thrust to push me through the water anymore. At that point I have to change to Jet Fins.

RSdiver:
Has anyone had problems with the straps?
I dive in kelp and my old Mares Avanti get hung up easily. Now it is time to buy new fins and I don't want to give up the great swimming performance I've enjoyed from Mares, but do want to solve the footstrap entangling issue.

Hm........ never had problems w/ catching kelps, eel grass, or my buddy's wreck reel on the fin straps before, maybe you should be more careful. You can also check the dive rite fin straps. http://www.dive-rite.com/products/maskfins/fins.htm

Seems I'm not the only having problems with the rubber coming of the composite on the Volo Power Fins. Bought mine this summer and they only have about 30 dives or so on them so it's quite a dissappointment that they already come apart. I was wondering if any of you that have the same problem have contacted Mares yet? Since I bought mine in Malaysia and I live in Sweden I can't go back to the store with them and our local Mares distributor won't accept returns for porducts purchased outside of Sweden som they told me to go back to Malaysia or try Mares headquarters in italy. I checked on their website but can't seem to find an e-mail adress or phone number (I'd rather not call long distance is expensive :) )
Anyways I'd like to know what you guys have done if anything.

/C

30 dives and they're already coming apart? Mine's aren't deteriorating that fast. Do you put them with all your other gears when travelling, rinse them after every set of dives, rest on the bottom with your fin tips a lot, etcetcetc....

Btw, for those who don't get enough powers from the volos, are you guys using the old ones or the new ones?

Mustapha Loves Guns:
Hi,
I have a pair of splits and love them, I saw the Mares Volo and they look great, are they any good? Will they be as good as my splits (nothing is better than my splits)??

Hi there! Have not tried the Mares Volo personally. But on the split fins, my wife had a pair but subsequently changed to the Jet Fins, similar to what I use.

Now, we both are looking at changing to a pair of Force Fin, model Force Fin PRO. That seems to give the same thrust as the Jet Fin with lesser strain on the legs.

Best of all, its short in length and lighter weight. Great for travelling!

Check it out at: www.eko-apac.com/forcefinhome.html Enjoy!

I own Volo's and swear by them. With over 200 dives on them they are holding up pretty good. The hinge problem has been addressed by Mares (free exchange through dealer). I'm 260 lbs and I dive doubles in cold water, no probs pushing my carcass through the water. My wife replaced her Volo's with Dacor Panthers and found them lacking, sold them and went back to Volo's. I cant justify spending any kind of money on a fin that doesn't have the Mares style buckle (godsend for 5mm gloves). I have broke a fin strap, that's A fin strap, not bad I'd say. Still always a good idea to have spares. I never thought I'd disagree with cancun Mark (hopefully only time) but I think they are a great fin, that do everything a split can do and more (even sculling). I will never go back to a paddle fin (gave away my avanti's). Just my 2 PSI.
