Hi,
I would just like to ask if it was possible to combine a mares proton second stage with th mares proton ice first stage?

Send a PM to Zak OHara, who is a Mares rep and moderates the Mares board here. He is very responsive and is currently helping me with a very similar application.

Hi,
I would just like to ask if it was possible to combine a mares proton second stage with th mares proton ice first stage?

You may have already gotten this answered but:

First question: Proton and Proton Ice are 2nd stages. Which first stage do you have (MR32, MR22, MR42, MR12, etc.).

Second question: Are you doing cold-water diving? If no, than either the Proton Ice or regular Proton 2nds are fine.

So more than likely you can use both the Proton Ice 2nd and regular Proton 2nd on ANY first stage Mares makes. You will need to tune each 2nd stage to the 1st stage anyway (adjust each 2nd stage to perform properly with the Intermediate Pressure that the 1st stage is set at). Because you need to adjust the 2nd stage to the 1st stage IP, you can almost always adjust any 2nd stage to be used with any 1st stage (there may be a few exceptions).

Best wishes.

I confirm what LeadTurn_SD says actually you can combine most of the mares first stage with the different second stages.
In terms of the Ice / No ice Mares regulators as they are usually don't cope well around 10 C but you can buy a first stage cold water kit which fits even the MR12 which these days is the entry level
Once you have your first and second stage assembled you need to do the usual test of the cracking pressure. Almost all Mares second stages I have seen need a special 5.5 mm hex wrench screwdriver type to tune the second stage demand lever, I would recommend you to get one of those if you intend to tune your regulator by yourself because no other tool would do the job due to the nature of the design

in the 1-st step a MR22 Abyss and in the 2-nd step a proton VR32 Proton Ice, but it a cold water should suited system EN 250

Truth be known, you can pair up virtually any first stage with any second stage. Shhhhh...don't tell anyone!
