Looking to buy a reg and down to these two. Scubatoys.com has the Proton on sale for $200 (vs the $150 for the Alpha 8). Is the proton a significantly better regulator?
 
Both regulators are excellent values for the money. The Proton is an exceptional buy, as a metal second stage is much more expensive to fabricate than a plastic version.

I use several different Mares regs, and have serviced the line for many years. The Proton Metal is my favorite second stage.
