hello

It seems to be that most Mares fins owners are opting for the volo or the quattros.

I've seen the quattros and the regular avantis. Yes there seems to be more play in the quattros but is there such a difference to warrent a $50 dollar difference?
My local shop is running a good deal on the standard avantis. Just wanted to get some input.
THanks

Avantis are a great deal for the $$. They are a slightly stiffer fin than the Quattros, and a lot stiffer than the Volos. If your legs are in good shape (mine were until I got Volos) and you don't cramp up, the only other problem you might have with the Avantis is that the foot pocket is very wide (largest of the Mares line). It's great for Drysuit boots, etc., but if you have a narrow foot, it could be a problem.

The Quattros and the USD Blades are some of the highest rated fins, in terms of efficiency, according to Rodales. Don't know if that means a lot to you or not.

I've got volos for wetsuit diveing (Nice and easy) and quattros for Drysuit (Bucketloads of thrust).

I have a pair of plana......... a royal pain in the rear to keep ur legs up to shape, and I mean a real plain.

Btw, the new Volo Power/race is out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just odered a pair of small and I'm feeling like a happy camper.
$190 retail, if u live around southbay/ southern cali the Dive n' Surf shop is selling them for $140 for the yard sale

and love them. Are they worth $50 more than the Avantis's? Probably not.

I use Volos, they're great and I find them to inflict less stress and fatigue on my anckles.
Good luck.

Volos work great for me in tropical and drift dives of Coz. Springs replacing straps are an absolute breeze as well as a must.
Jets get used for cave and technical dives

thanks everyone for your imput.

Has anyone used the Plana Avanti then upgraded to quattros and noticed a difference?
I can see that the volos would feel different.
