I noticed Mares has a 2 year warranty on their fins. Did they take care of the delamination problem?

yeah Mares have asked for some pics of the fins, which i have taken and emailed to them, i,vebeen away for 3 days so wont get a chance to check my emails until tonight when i get home, but will keep you posted on the .outcome

We replaced the Mares straps with spring straps.
I replaced mine with spring straps, too. Soooo much easier to manage! I can take my fins off in the worst seas with a slip of a single finger down my heel adjacent to my achilles tendon. And, continuing the same motion, the strap ends up around my wrist. Simple. No aggravation or pain.

Hi Guys,
thanks for all the great feedback. I have now done three dives in the new Mares fins. I have found the buckles relatively easy to flip open when using gloves in the water. However I do find I need to open both sides to get them off which is a bit of a nuisance.

As for the lengthening of the straps I am still having trouble getting the strap to feed readily unless I make sure the angle is right. Basically the rubber ridges on the strap are quite high and get caught on the leading edge of the clip. I can't imagine this will get easier with wear since it is an issue of the ridges getting caught and that shouldn't change over time. Interestingly this seems worse on the Volos that I got and not so much of an issue on the Avanti X3's that I got as a spare pair. Don't know why that would be since both fins use the same buckles. My old fins used the same type of system and I never had any problems with them, so it is not a matter of user error. Anyway this is not that big an issue. It is not as if it is something that I have to do quickly and efficiently in an emergency situation, so it remains just a minor inconvenience.

The fins are nice to use. I can't say I have noticed a huge improvement in speed or effort compared to my old TUSA's but there is a significant improvement in manouverability. Also get good propulsion with frog kick which was pitifully slow in my old fins.

The fact that these fins are 200g lighter than my old ones will be a bonus for travelling.

Overall I am pleased with them. But I still may consider some spring straps in the not too distant future!

Thanks again for the advice, Dave

where to get the spring straps?

I made mine per instructions found on the internet. Several companies now sell them online or through your LDS. Check online and in your local LDS. There are several different designs. Some even have buckles similar to normal straps, which seems to be a bit silly to me.

Ditto. I think the original straps suck. I'll never use anything but springs again.

Is there a pattern here? I love my Quattros, found the ABS buckles to be awful – unpredictably difficult (sometimes, easy, sometimes hard), plus getting replacement straps from Mares (not the useless Trident replacements) was a challenge. I switched to spring straps and WHAT A DIFFERENCE. Still love the fins, and love the spring straps.

I replaced my ABS buckles / straps with Manta spring straps. Many on-line retailers carry them, but don’t know about their distribution in LDS outside the US. Do a search for Manta fin straps.

I feel that it is better to replace ABS buckles with spring straps. I had a few incidents that I had to release the buckles in a hurry in a rough sea getting aboard a dive boat. With a thin glove, my nail got caught when I tried to open the buckles in a hurry. It hurted like hell with a little bleeding too. After that I was able to ordered the spring strap from LeisureXXX.com. They will ship internationally, and I am from Hong Kong.

Happy Diving.

I did not have that much trouble with the straps, but when Diver Direct ran a sale on springs, I got them and I will never go back!
