I bought a Mares Morphos Pro last November, and with it being the first time I bought a BC a let the dive shop owner help me determine the size. He said a medium would fit me, but didn't have any in stock and would need to order it. When it came in, I took it home tried it on and not knowing any better I thought it fit.

Last month, while diving in Eilat, my instructor said that it was too big for me. Then just today as I was putting it away, I noticed something strange. The tag on the back defiantly says "M", but on the right shoulder near the quick dump valve there is an embossed "XL." Based on the size of the BC, I am assuming that "XL" is the true size.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? Are there any Mares reps on the board that might be able to help me get it exchanged? Or, am I just going to have to chalk this up as an expensive learning experience?

Go to the shop that you bought your BC with your Morphos. Ask for another Medium Morphos to try. If the other medium Morphos is much smaller than your medium morphos, then Mares will most likely change it. It will take sometime though. If it is indeed the same size, then it will be an expensive lesson - always test before buying. If the dive shop doesn't want to help you, never go there ever again.

I'm 5ft 10, medium build, 70kg and I use a Small Mares. I tried the Medium and my dive shop friend told me its a little too big even though it fits nicely on surface. I took his advice and he was right. The small looks a lil small on land but fits perfectly underwater.

There a small problem with taking it back to the dive shop I bought it at.

The dive shop is in Utah, and I now live in Israel.

I did send them an email. So maybe I will get lucky and they will be able to do something for me.

Now, that's a little toublesome... Try to find a Medium Morphos or any Medium Mares BC at where you are and email direct to Mares if it indeed is a size discrepancy.

It's unfortunate that there is no Mares Authorised Dealers in Israel. It will be much easier.
