I glad to hear you have good advise. I was just airing on the side of caution. not everybody will know when to crawl or walk from monastery. I'm sure you will do the right thing. personally I would like to do a dive in the day and get my barring and look at the sight a bit closer in daylight to make comparisons from what you have read and studied. in any case. I hope you all have fun. and I also just trying to make conversation on SB and give it another chance. don't let me rain on the dive party. have fun.
There's a thread here that Doc Wong started that's highlighting a Monastery Survival Project and gives a list of people on that panel. My usual dive buddy is on that panel. I don't think I have much of a problem knowing when to walk away from Monastery. ;)

So has anyone decided if it will be a night dive at Break Water? I have a dive buddy that would like to come up from the Bay Area to join our night dive if it's at BW...

Hi Mike,

I don't think there has been any change of plans for the night dive and probably won't be until we're there and see what conditions are like.

There might be others who don't have any interest in trying a Monastery night dive and would rather plan to go to Breakwater now though. Anyone want to plan on a night dive with Mike and his buddy at Breakwater Sat night?

I don't think I'm up for a night Monestary dive this weekend. I'm coming down for the Lobos dive, and if conditions after the dive look good enough I'll hang out the rest of the day and will do a night dive at Breakwater with anyone who wants to. If after the Lobos dive things are looking too churned up I'll probably head back up home. So I'll make my final decision on Saturday.

Why doesn't anyone who is interested in a Breakwater night dive PM me or post here and I'll keep a list going. Let me know if you will be at Lobos or not, and if not then leave some contact info so we can let each other know Saturday afternoon if it looks like the dive will happen.

Hi Michelle and Nathan,

I guess I will tell my dive buddy to be on standby for Saturday night dive at Break water. He is going to purchase his night sticks tommorrow, he is really excited about the chance to dive night.

Since he knows I will be diving Lobos with you guys on Saturday he asked if the night dive would be at BW and I said, "looks like it might roll there instead of Monastery".

I hope conditions let us dive at night because he really wants to meet you guys/gals,,, he's my dive buddy from Open Water classes.

I purchased two more light sticks so I can look like Nathan the X-mas tree in the night... :)

That's a good idea to have your buddy just standby. The conditions still aren't looking great, so there may not be a lot of diving in many spots.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for Lobos with the prediction of a W swell though.

With 15 ft swells predicted Saturday night, only someone with a death wish would even go near the water at Monastery. Even the Breakwater will be an ugly entry and exit. Most likely the surge will be bad too.

At this point we are gonna pack my Prius tonight and dive Saturday at Lobos then return home in the evening. We will again check the weather forecast in the morning.
