We were diving of the Great Escape and we can across this little guy.

Stephen was just warning me not to poke at those guys the other day. I have a nasty habit of trying to coax critters into doing something interesting, and when we found a tiny inking octo and I poked at it to get it to ink more....and then we started talking about shrimp for some reason, he made me promise to keep my fingers to myself. Good to see a video of one....now I know what to look out for! Thanks, Dave!

Nicole, Marian was taking a few stills with her P&S but kept getting too close. :shocked2:

These little buggers can jump at you with suprising speed and force. It is best to keep a little distance and give them their space.

haha, thanks for the info! I will definitely keep that in mind next time I think about getting too close! Crazy little critters....they just suck you in and make you think they're really cool and super nice! :rofl3:

I saw a Nova (??discovery channel..) video of these things where a diver got a bit close to one of these -- a striker variant -- and got his mask broken. The thing jumped at him and "punched" him in his mask, breaking it. I have heard that the spearer variants can really mess with your thumb or hand...
