Many thanks for that link....THATS EXACTLY WHAT WE'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR;) and your right at first I thought female "Stephanie " then rethought "Stephen" and yes I'll send a Hello from CT.......

I've briefly looked it over but it looks to have a good deal of info and answers to the questions we have.

To top it off we got a magazine today that has what looks to be a nice article on Manihi and some of the other atolls of FP.......really starting to get wound up about this trip!!!!!

Thanks again

Scott

Hi Susan....

Ok so it's more than one question.....

When you and Lydia dove in FP what was your experience level???? and how comfortable were you with the dives that you went on???? Robin is a relatively new diver (OW 7/01 and AOW 5/02 )and I want to make sure she is comfortable with the dives….Don’t know why I ask...but…. I’m scared that after this trip she'll only want to dive in the tropics!!!!!! and no more 5'vis and 45 degree water WONDER WHY

How were the dives and when did you make them? (morning or afternoon and how many did you get in)

Oh yeah I sent an Email to your buddy Stephane and said “Ia orana ;)” from Ct. Susan and Lydia.

Talk to you soon!! :thumb:

Hi Scott,

Lydia and I certified in October, in cold CT lakes. We did about 8 dives in the Carribean in December, and then went to FP in March. I don't remember the exact count, but we did about 12 - 15 dives in FP. We were incredibly comfortable.

We still want to dive locally, but our schedules are very tight. It seems we can most easily make time for diving by going away on a planned vacation.

That is great .... as Robin is in the same boat (HeHeHe) so to speak. The good thing is we plan on increasing her "experience" here in good ole NJ prior to departure (well we better get moving on that note) ...... so it sounds like FP will not be a problem. Looks like the biggest problem I'll have is getting her to dive in NJ once we are back!! :out:

Left Stephane an email last week....hope to hear from him soon...then I can stop bugging you for info ;)

At Blue Nui in Manihi did you get to select where you wanted to dive or was that determined for you????

Tairapa Pass and the Circus look like neat dives

Talk with you soon

Stephane's planning always took place at about 6:00 PM in the pool-side bar. He would meet with whomever planned to dive the next day, and decide where the dives would be based on what the clients wanted, or had already seen.

We did a couple of repeat dives, but the area is so lovely, I could dive the same spots over and over again and not get bored. The dive boat is quite small, I don't think we ever had more than 6 or 7 people on board, in total. We were there in the "low season", so it might be different when you visit.

Don't forget to visit one of the Black Pearl Farms! We saved that for our last day prior to flying out, and it was highly entertaining!!!

Have Fun!

Hi Susan

I know we are going to do the Pearl farm.....I promised someone a Black Pearl ;) .....Is Manihi a good place to buy pearls??? (I just figured since there is a farm on the Atoll it would be...)

I know you can do the Motu picnic ....breakfast by canoe..... do you have any other suggestions.....

Honestly I think we are going to end up diving and then wasting the day away on our deck in the sun.....

:)

Will be beautiful!

We chose to concentrate on diving, since we were only there for 4 nights. If you are looking for a black pearl, check some prices in local shops on the Society Islands prior to heading to Manihi. Then compare with buying directly from the farmer. My advice is this - metal is extremely expensive in FP. Buy pearl(s) un-set, and set them when you return home.

Something I wish we had done was clip some pictures from magazines of attractive "native" settings, so we had something to show our jeweler back here. Just a thought...
