the most important thing is checking moon phases. Going there when it is not full or new moon will give you the best chances of seeing the thresher sharks. I'll be there myself on January 18 to 22Sent from my samsung galaxy s2 using tapatalk
Interesting, do you have a source for this statement?

sorry never subscribed to this thread so never saw your question.

but to answer it, my source is gary cases, the head(or former head?) of the thresher shark conservation in malapascua. during the full and new moon, cleaner wrasses mate so they will not service the sharks, hence the lack of sightings during this time.

just came from there a posted a vid here:

I was just there from January 19 to 22, and all I can say is weather and sea conditions were just absolutely perfect.

I came back from there on the 12th Jan, and after three dives on Monad Shoal had seen three Threshers, one of which was less than a metre away. Other divers who went out whilst I was there saw upto 5 Threshers in one dive, and a couple of Eagle Ray. Malapascua Exotic Resort was awesome, Angel and his team really helpful, Filipino dive guides mega, would definitely recommend a stay there.
