I can't imagine they meant Oxygen tanks - I don't always believe everything I read. And this would be one of those times.

Most swimming holes are Springs, or perhaps this was a spring that emptied into a lagoon?
"The Kaan Luum Lagoon is 7km south of Tulum and there is a forest with a jetty to walk through to the lagoon where water activies are offered such as kayaking, snorqueling and swimming on the crystal clear waters."
