The mystery is solved..see below.
It may just be coming from midland.
Anyway to address your points, then the conclusion below.
The unit I have was supplied brand spanking new by a compressor dealer in the states... My unit has a hole in each end that is 17.8 mm in diameter (0.700787 inches.)
this does not match any minor diameter of common BSPT threads

It is not a Bauer or a Mako
This is an aftermarket auto drain, August Industries puts them on their Bauer Divemates.
Dive mate, 3 stage compressor, 2 stage auto drain, six screws.
K-14, 3 piston 4 stages 8 screws.
Thread is 1/2" NPT.
I spoke with Porter, and he was absolutely terrific. Do not hesitate to send your business his way.
