Just drove down from pt Mugu on PCH..... HHUUUGGGEEEE red tide event going on, from just south/ east of Leo... all the way across the Bay. Looks like you could walk on it, looked so thick....

When are we gonna get some decent water this year? Lobster season approaches, Mother Nature needs to be a little more accomidating!:D

I think this has been the worst year for diving that I've seen in the 35 years I've been in southern California. It has to change, right? If it doesn't I'm off to Hawaii or some comparable warm and clear water site (yes, I know that's sacrilege for a kelp forest ecologist but I like to study things I can actually see).

Now, I wonder. Considering that you often dive with a 3 mil shorty in Catalina, what would you possibly wear in Hawaii

I'd say nothing at all, but there are tiger sharks there and I'd hate to lure them in! Perhaps a modest swim suit would be more in line.

Actually with the oscillating thermocline reaching as shallow as 17 ft recently, I'm picking up my 7mm shortie from M&B next week! Can't have the arms shaking as I videotape.
