Does anyone has any macro pic taken with Olympus E-PL5 and the standard kit lens M.Zuiko 14-42mm ED Rii??

I've been reading the reviews of the PEN system and I found nothing but good reviews.

I'd really like to know how the kit lens perform in macro as well before I invest into the system.

Thanks in advance.

The Olympus 14-42mm lens is not going to give you anything for macro without an external diopter with an almost 10 inch minimum focus distance, you can not get close enough to a subject with the lens on its own. If you are using the PT-EP10 housing, adding a macro diopter is pretty easy. Withthat said, if you are really into macro shooting, the Olympus 60mm macro lens is very hard to beat even when compared to Canon and Nikon glass. The 60mm macro will easily work behind the EP10 standard port as well.

Thanks Rob.

Actually I would like to take Wide angle. But on a bad day, where visibility is bad, I'd love to have the flexibility to shoot small stuff too.

I understand that u can't get the best of both. I'm still learning.mm

I'm just considering if I should get the e-pl6 or e-pl7 considering both camera is almost similar but e-pl6 has a significantly smaller housing that only takes the 14-40mm EZ lens and the port don't take the m.zuiko 60mm f2.8 macro lens.

Do you know which Olympus housing you are referring to? The E-PL6 is compatible with the PT-EP10 which is the same housing that is used with the E-PL5 camera. That housing can be used with multiple lenses including the 9-18 for wider angle shots, and the 60mm macro. The E-PL7 housing PT-EP12 has the smaller port on it, and is only compatible with the 14-42mm EZ lens along with a few other non-underwater recommended lenses. If you can still find the PT-EP10 housing, the E-PL6 might be the better way to go.

I'm using the Olympus with stock 14-42 and the external 'lens cap' diopter. It's nice to be able to flip it off occasionally like timz wants to do.
Anyone have a superior method to deal with it when off? Cold water, not great dexterity. I have not found any kind of arm mount available.

I have it on a lanyard. Trouble is it hangs down and for any low shots it's dragging on the reef, not doing that any good and getting banged up, maybe scratched. Gotta be a better way.

Funny we use the 14-42 with the omd5/Olympus housing. We keep the tg4 in our pocket for macro and find it is much better than the above lens with diopters. We are always shallower than 50 feet

The Olympus PMLA-EP01 is definitely a little clumsy to deal with. I always recommend having it tethered to housing, but then like you say it will hang down and drag the reef. You can always keep it untethered, and put it in your BC pocket when you are not using it. That is really the only option. I don't typically recommend this because that is how lenses get lost though.

When I use the PMLA adapter with the flat port, I use a short section of cave line to attach it to the rig- just enough to get it out of the way, but not so much that it dangles onto the bottom. That said- the best way to go is the macro adapters from Reef Wreck & Critter. They have two options for the PEN standard port- should be the 4th and 5th sections down on the their web page:

Jeff Mullins is the owner, and he posts on these forums periodically. I bought a swing away adapter from him for my 12-40 port and I'm very happy with the quality. I have no qualms recommending their products.

Hi Furnari, any samples of macro shot with the 14-42mm with a diopter??
