Looking to add a macro lens to my Olympus 5050 set up. I have been reading and there is a lot of talk about stacking lenses. What is the advantage of stacking 165's vs using a 330??

Thanks

You have it backwards. The 330 has half the magnification of the 165! You need to stack two 330s to get the same magnification as you get from one 165. IMHO, the 330 is useless. Buy the 165 and then buy another 165 to stack.

jlyle,
Thanks for the information. Great pictures. One more question, were those pictures taken with with a single 165 or were they stacked?

Stacked - Inon 165 & Oly PCU-01. I bought the Oly macro lens adapter first and then added the Inon. The two lenses are similar, but the Inon can be stacked; the Oly is only threaded on one side. Go with two Inon macro lenses.

It's tricky to take pictures with the stacked lenses. To take an image, move the camera in slowly towards the subject until the image, as shown in the LCD, begins to look clear, then half-press for auto-focus and take the shot. I highly recommend taking lots of shots as only about half of them are going to be in focus.

The other issue is the very narrow of depth of field. To maximize your dof, shoot at maximum f-stop, 1/250 sec or higher, use lots of light, and try and get as much of the subject in the focal plain as possible.
