I recently got one of the 8"x24" Luxfer AL80s for the right price. Does anyone know the buoyancy characteristics of this tank? Is there any reason to prefer this to the 7.25"? Is there any reason to not use it?

I think I'd really prefer one of the 7.25" AL80s (I don't much care for short, fat tanks); if anyone was interested in trading I'd be in favor. I have a 6351 7.25" AL80 that I don't intend to keep, as well, in case anyone wanted that.

8x23 actually...
It's a couple pounds less positive than the normal 80's. It's 3 inches shorter than a normal AL80 which is way too long for the majority of divers, especially where the rec crowd hangs their tanks so low in the BC. I've seen divers with the AL80's down around their knees...

anyway, there are most tank specs

I once compared the tank spec sheets between TDL, Huron SCUBA and the manufacturer's websites and found huge differences, and not just in the "i bet thats without valve" department. I wish there was a good authoritative reference I could trust.

Is that the Super80 tank?

ya, but there is still the dilemma if each tank being slightly different.
TDL and Huron Scuba have the same specs for the Luxfer S80's though

I'm curious where those discrepancies are though...

I had it spreadsheeted at one point, if I find it I'll let you know. I suspect it was with 100cf tanks.

hrrm... The 100's were the same between tdl and huron. I know there are some discrepancies but it looks like they've been updated in the last year or two.
Even if it's off by a pound or so or an inch you can get the gist of it pretty easily. The AL specs and all the steels I looked at lined up.
