I know many of you have switched to dry suits, but I wanted to add my two cents' worth regarding wetsuits.
I just dived in Maine (39 degrees!) in a layered ensemble, mostly from Henderson. In addition to a microprene dive skin, I had on a 7mm Hyperstretch one piece and a 5/3 hyperstretch hooded vest. Not only were these wicked easy to get on, but they kept me mighty warm, although our dive was kind of short. (I also had on 5mm booties and 7mm Henderson Gold Core gloves.)
The Hyperstretch keep me plenty warm (and I am infamous for having cold hands and feet), and it was sooooo easy to put on and get off. I love it!
Another tip: Polartec socks under 5mm booties work great! (I have never tried wool, though.)
Good luck picking the right gear!
