Had I heard it, I would have assumed that it was a joke. If that is what he was really planning to do, I doubt he'd have announced it. Maybe it was a good natured reminder to those aboard that tips are a significant portion of a DM's income.
I think that's how I would have taken the remark. Who knows how many are found and kept, but do you often hear of used cameras for sale in Coz? Well, I don't shop much...

Yeh, Pedro and all of my staff are pretty good eggs :) After 9 years as the "Jefe" on my team, I guess I'll keep him around - hahah! I am very lucky and blessed to have such a strong team!

Christi your staff is why I keep coming back. Pedro is an excellent DM and a peach of a guy! Always liked Arturo as well and was sorry to find he had changed ops.

Our divemasters joke anything left behind can be picked up at the pawn shop- of course they are joking and hopefully this one was also. Try to find the owner then finders keepers

A few years ago, Pedro found a purse on the reef - it obviously had not been there long. There was cash, credit cards, camera, cell phone (worthless at that point) and passports. He turned it into me and after several days of searching local hotels - I found the people! They were staying on the mainland and had been on a snorkel boat here for the day that was overtaken by a wave! They had already headed off to Merida to get their passports replaced, but all items were returned and she later sent a check as a reward to my crew for double what was in her purse!

I can only wish that a crew like yours finds my camera! I'm glad to hear that story as it gives me a small glimpse of hope. Christi, what shop do you operate? I wish we did our due diligence before heading down there. We will be back :)

The camera did sink...very quickly too. One of the guys on the boat actually put in the effort of gearing up and diving down to look for it...so I was definitely happy with their service and effort. Thanks for letting me know about the protection plan. I actually had one that covered damage if the waterproof housing leaked, but didn't know there were any available that actually covered a lost camera.
