Lost at Sea

OK I started this and it seems to be going well so far so "I" need to spill the beans on another "almost" loss.
My brother and I were preparing to dive an inland lake out of a ski boat. We anchored the boat and set our BCs into the water as we climbed off the boat. When I came around the other side to put my gear on I saw it roll to one side and sink to the bottom of the lake. Apparently I had not put enough air into it and it was only the trapped air that kept it floating (until it rolled). Lucky for me my brother found it at the black bottom at 30' and sent it up so I didn't have to try to tell my wife how I lost my "new" equipment.

Before I got into wearing a beanie for warmth (especially in winter) I bought a nice pair of gloves. Wore them on the first dive, then put them in my BCD pockets at the SI. They were long gone when I remembered about them as I started getting cold on the 2nd dive..... Doh!

PS: Beanie works better + keeps the hair out of my face.

During Invasion this year I had a new "Dive Gilboa Quarry" t-shirt tied to the boat...

I've never lost anything since switching to a Bp/w set up. Probably because I don't have pockets anymore. The dry suit I'm looking at has pockets with d rings so I can attach stuff inside.
Maybe I just need to bring more stuff with me when I dive. We have sites that are well known for locals to dive on Mondays to pick up what fell out of pockets or off heads (go pros)

I hear that if you dive a bp/w you can't get lost, left behind, over weighted, underweighted, run out of air, get cold, feel tired, pee won't stink up your wet suit, your frog kicks are perfect, you can turn like a helicopter, back up like a Democrat, your mask never fogs and pretty girls avoid you.

Did a Blackbeards dive trip in the summer of 1986. The boat was anchored in 35 feet of water. After one of our guys boarded, he noted his wedding band was missing. The Dive Master geared up and found it on the bottom.

I had a brand new Light Monkey 400' reel clipped to the rear d on my rig. I sat on the back of the boat while we travelled to the next site. I heard a clunk and there went my reel. Hadn't used it even once. :-(

I lost a prescription mask. Was on the boat and rinsing it over the side and it just slipped out of my fingers. Was up north at Barracuda so it is probably a million miles away...but if you happen to find a black prescription mask....

I did the same thing with a brand new black Scuba Pro mask.. I had only worn it once doing my weight check dive. Never again will I rinse that way.
