This July, at Punta Tunich, I saw a strange formation of purple sponge underneath coral head. So I swam closer to take a picture, and cannot believe what I saw - "HANES" is written across the top of sponge!

I pulled out this new species of "sponge", showed it to dive master. He took it and put it in his accessory pocket.

Back on boat, everyone had a nice laugh on what I found as dive master discard it into garbage can.

I hope whoever lost the Hanes underwear forgive our decision to discard it immediately instead of trying to locate its owner first.

Yes, surprise is what I see when I hand them back, too. After 3 or so catches of one lady's, I suggested she find another way to carry it or leave it on the boat. She seemed surprised by that, too...

Recently an observant diver watched the shears - a friend loaned me after mine broke - go sailing off into the deep. I heard about it from another diver, during surface interval.
He said he only had 140 pounds of pressure left, so he couldn't go for them. I was floating beside the boat wearing fins, mask around my neck. DM was still in the water, in gear.
I asked why he didn't shout so someone could try to catch them. He said it was because he was the only one who was still in the water.
Brilliant, huh? Now I have to replace two pairs of shears.

I frequently carry a small point and shoot camera with me on dives. In the Florida Keys I was hanging on a line completing a safety stop and I looked to the side to see my camera just pleasantly floating with an ever so slight hint of positive buoyancy about 18 inches away from me and getting further away. Startled, I quickly grabbed it and reattached it to my BC.

Needless to say I have a much more secure system for attaching my camera to my BC now.

A couple of years ago on a night dive at Paradise a friend found a 1+ carat diamond stud earring!:D When she swung her light around, it glistened from the sand.

Shears are cheap on Ebay. These look good: 4 pair for $2 including shipping in US, or if not - there are many others to review: EMT Shears Scissors Bandage Paramedic Trauma Medical Nurse 6" Stainless Steel | eBay

My home bud had just bought a bid DAN safety sausage before a Coz trip, which he had attached to his reel in his BC pocket - which he failed to close. We never saw the SMB & reel leave? He went back to his old SMB & spool.

I had a beanie from my BC pocket given back to me on a Coz dive once, and my Storm whistle given back to me when it dropped on a SS once. Clumsy. Last Coz trip, I had an Oceanic foldable snorkel with velcro attachment in my BC pocket wit my sausage & spool - and I guess it dropped when I pulled the latter out. Replaced now. I need to keep in mind what all is in each pocket, carefully remove what I want and retain the rest, then close.

My biggest nearly lost was a lower denture coming lose on a fast dive up north. I got it secured in a pocket ok until I could get back on the boat where I had a tube of adhesive. Another risk to avoid. At least I was on Coz, not that far from Cancun where I got it so I could have initiated replacement quickly, but takes a few days to make on right.

I wonder why google speil chiek doesn't like my word foldable...? :dontknow:

Cheap shears are cheap for a reason. Not least among them is that the pivot is crap metal and rusts out, leaving the blades too loose and unusable or breaking completely in a matter of days - even with daily cleaning and silicone protection.
I need dependable shears.

My latest contribution to the sea is a salmon colored baseball cap with Silver Hammer Band logo.
If found, reward is una cerveza fria.

I've never lost anything since switching to a Bp/w set up. Probably because I don't have pockets anymore. The dry suit I'm looking at has pockets with d rings so I can attach stuff inside.
Maybe I just need to bring more stuff with me when I dive. We have sites that are well known for locals to dive on Mondays to pick up what fell out of pockets or off heads (go pros)

In October I was very sad to lose my black and purple squid hat at one of the Palancer sites. It's old beat up and has New England Dive printed on the front. I have chased this hat all over the Caribbean. If anyone finds please take good care of it or send me a message.

Wow, you dove in one of these, or just wore it on the boat...?
