I've noticed the wingnuts on my Dive Rite STA tend to get loose. I was diving Saturday and lost a wingnut. The wing stayed on the bolt until I surfaced and then the bottom of the wing flipped up and I had no idea what was happening. Can anyone recommend an alternative wingnut which will stay in place?

Tobin (Deep Sea supply) has some. Or you could just use brute force and tighten them yourself. ;)

I have been using wing nuts from Lowes with no problems. . .

Sometimes I forget to check my wingnuts. I don't understand why they are working loose.

The same thing happened to me in So Cal. One of the worst dives I have ever had. I couldn't figure out why everything felt sloppy. Got out of the water and both wingnuts were almost off. My single tank was just flapping around.

Grabbed a wrench and that problem was quickly solved.

Get Tobin's. The plastic keeps them solid. I know the metal wingnuts look stronger, but you, too will be saying "well, I'll be! They really do work!"

All the best, James

I use Tobin's DSS plastic thumbwheels because I got tired of keeping up with lock washers, etc. Just hand tighten and enjoy your dive. No tools required, and they are flat and low profile. Remember, they should be just as easy to remove as they are to install.

Just my 2 psi...

I'll try Tobin's wingnuts. Thanks. :)
