hello

im looking for a good bc that is not cumbersome and is lightweight yet sturdy. I would like good back support because i have a bad back, had surgery years ago but sore in the mornings. I travel around 2 times a year to Costa Rica to dive so packing wise it should be good. I also spearfish alot so i thought i would mention that, need a pocket or two for flashlight, small lift bags, etc and some clips for reel. I was looking at the seaquest "Balance" if anyone has some pros and cons of it, please give me your opinions on some good choices, thanks all.

Look at the Hollis HD 100. It is by far the most comfortable BC I have tried. I went through about every brand there is and it is hands down the most comfortable. It took me about 6 months to finally purchase one after trying everyone's BC I know, including renting several.

Thanks will look in to it, it looks real nice.

Don't forget that comfort on the surface does not equal comfort in the water. I'd look at a backplate/wing set up. The backplate will couple the tank to your back by providing a spread out solid area of contact. This takes the pressure out of a single point of contact. (solid tank center line against fabric of the BC) It might seem counter-intuitive on land, but once you're in the water you'll be amazed.

Rent, borrow or beg as many different types and brands as you can before purchasing. If you have a LDS that will lend you gear before purchase even better. What works for me may not be best for you.
I prefer a BPW for both singles and doubles diving, but you may like a soft version (Transpac) or even a jacket BC. It is much cheaper to try before you buy than it is to buy something to find you need something else. Just my .02C

I second Fireman's suggestion. The Hollis HD 100 is a very nice BC. Very form fitting. I would also suggest the Zeagle Ranger. I feel that these two BCs, more than any of the other back inflation or jackets I have used, conform to your body, making for a really secure BC, and a fun dive.
But that's just my $0.02. Try out as many rigs as possible before making up your mind.

Dive Rite TransPac is comfortable for both in and out of the water. Dive Rite designed that rig to bear heavy weight ala mountaineering backpack. It doesn't come with pockets, but there are pocket accessories available.

"a good bc that is not cumbersome and is lightweight yet sturdy"....my rec is look @ the Zeagle Scout..i had a laminectomy in '89 so I know what you mean...some days, it's just 'weak'....good price too, under $200US now.....

BP/wing such as the Oxy Cheq Mach V 18/30 and their Ultra Light mini plate.
