We want to go to Puerto Rico this fall/winter.....why does it cost so freakin much to fly to Puerto Rico ????? Does anyone know of a good deal on airfare? car rental?
we are going to stay on the west side of the island, so any recommendations on dive ops would be appreciated. We are newbies, so hopefully there is plenty of options.
Thanks

You might want to say where you are from (and fill out your profile) - no one can give you airfare advice without knowing where you are.

I've usually found PR to be one of the cheaper places in the Carribean to fly to. It's sort of a hub for a lot of other islands.

Just returned from PR. United is currently selling flights, direct for us from Dulles, at about $300 round trip, but doubt they extend to Fall season. Western side is better diving, but I found not up to other islands in carib. Angel at Parguera is highly regared on South coast. Friends dove with The Dive Shop, and enjoyed it. Attached is web site listing.

Went there in 2001, Stayed at Copamarina on the lower west coast. Very nice place but it's remote and if you don't want to do the all inclusive thing then it's about 20 miles to a town of any size. I only made 2 dives and both were real nice dives. The mangroves at La Paguera looked like it could be a great time and the guys in Rincon really hyped the diving they did out in that area.

I enjoyed PR and would go back, the drivers are absolutley insane. The fact that the dollar is the currancy is nice and easy. Outside of the citys Spanish is the primary language and many of the people don't really speak any english but they are very friendly and you can get by.

..
Just came back from a ten day stay in the island,
three of which were in Parguera diving with Angel
from Parguera Divers. No better service in that
corner of the island. Other days were spent in
Aguadilla and Isabela.
..
An account of our delinquencies there is being
posted in our web site with address below.
Go read what is it like to dive in the western
side.

going to PR in dec found 475 from Denver to San Juan roundtrip

American is the big airline flying to PR, they have more flights per day than anybody else. And they go from lots of places in the US.
The Copamarina is an outstanding resort hotel. Caribbean post card sort of place. I'm staying at the Copamarina on a work project and my wife comes occassionally and really likes it too. Friendly people, good service. The dive op (www.divecopamarina.com) is top notch too. The diving is great, 22 miles of wall just 15-45 minutes from the dock.
Have fun and dive safe. :)
