Hi,

I'm an experienced DM. I'm looking for a respectable PADI IDC at a shop that:

-is rigorous
-has tech diving (at least in the area, if not at the shop)
-is reasonably priced (I will be factoring in airfare/travel from the east coast of the US.)
- and is of course fun

I don't want to be sold by anyone but I would love any first-hand advice.

thanks in advance!

Look at Coconut Tree Divers/GoPro Caribbean on Roatan. Scuba Diving | PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Center | Roatan, Bay Islands & PADI Divemaster and Instructor internship Roatan Bay Islands Honduras - same shop. All the fun (nightlife) on Roatan is in the West End.

You might look at Utila also. Equally low cost of living, almost as easy to get to and they do a lot of dive training there at all levels. It is quite a bit smaller and since the ferry (Utila Princess) is in dry-dock for the foreseeable future, access is either by local flight or via one of several boat operators from Roatan. www.aboututila.com

If you want the best in personal instruction and great facility plus perfect living quarters included in the course fee.

Check with Philippe and EASE in Vero Beach, Fl.

I did mine last August with Pura Vida in West Palm Beach/Singer with Barbara DeClerque, and a great time. I passed the IE with flying colors. the shop was extremely helpful. The shop does Tech as well.

PADI INSTRUCTOR :: Pura Vida Divers

Another advantage of here is the Blue Heron Bridge... :D:D:D

Our next IDC starts Nov 11th in Playas del Coco, Costa Rica. We are a 5* CDC facility with an extensive TEC program. If you want more details just drop a note at dive@richcoastdiving.com and I will answer all your questions.

I just finished my IDC in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The dive shop was Mexico Blue Dream, very good dive shop, very well organized, and nice people. They have 2 Course Directors which are really great, and lots of cavern, cave, and tec diving in the cenotes. The IDC is 14 days and includes lots of fun things such as a cenote dive and rebreather try-out. The groups are small and the CD I had really wanted me not only to pass the IE, but also become the best possible instructor.

I did my IDC/MSDT at Rainbow Reef in Key Largo (IE was in Key Largo also). They have 2 course directors on staff and I can't say enough good about either of them. On the tech side they are doing rebreather courses but actual tech stuff they are not big in. If rebreather is part of tech your interested in they can certify up through rebreather instructor. Ross Neil is the main CD at the shop and a great guy to work with if you have questions.

I second Rainbow Reef and even though the shop isn't into tech there are tech shops nearby in Key Largo. Silent World dive shop is only a couple of miles from Rainbow Reef and they are a well known tech shop.
