Anybody in SoCal up to leading a dive to the Foss 125 wreck at Cleo Street, Laguna Beach, on Sunday morning? Haven't seen it myself yet and would like to hear from anyone who knows where it is and would like to go check it out - ready to dive 1 or 2 dives anywhere from around 7AM. I'll "close" this post at 5PM tomorrow (Sat) afternoon so be sure to send me a private message here on SB before then - make sure it includes a name and working cell phone number so I know if the dive/s is/are a go and can text a confirmation to whoever I'm meeting up with at the Cleo Street beach access entrance at 7AM sharp Sunday.

Anybody? :coffee:

Well, the surf was pretty knarly on Sunday, so I doubt you made it out there...or did you?

I know how to triangulate the cleo barge position, once in the water anyway. I'd love to show you the way, when there aren't any waves, of course...:blinking:

Hey scubalaurel,
You're right, never did make it out to the barge on Sunday. Gave me an opportunity to sleep in a bit so not complaining too much :D. You up to doing something perhaps this coming Sunday morning (29th October)? Conditions look spretty favorable thus far with a nice neap tide apparently due for then and not much of a swell; perhaps looking at the conditions again a bit later in the week might yield a better view of expected conditions :crafty:.

My wife and I were planning on diving Sunday morning anyway, might just as well be the barge if you're up to it? :coffee:

This is the week-end! October 28-29th!

The Santanas have been blowing generally assuring low surf and great visability for OC beach diving! An excellent window of opportunity for diving the Foss

The "Barge" sank at anchor about 50 years ago. Its age and constant action of the exposed ocean enviroment has destroyed it's familar boat configeration. Concurrently, these very factors has created a unique and some what dangerous diving destination.

Enjoy, but be mindful of the watermelon size rocks in the surf line creating difficult E&Es. While on the barge be aware of what's remaining of the hull. Those rusty plates resting at odd angles, moving with every swell are at least 1/2 inch thick and becoming more unstable every year!

There are three underwater "Wrecks" in OC that you may want to consider for future diving; the Corsair, ( Crystal cove) Airplane, (Woods cove) Landing Barge (Dana point.) Each is unique...

Hey SoCalAngel- I already sent you a PM about this, but I'll post the question here too in case anyone else can help. What are the triangulation points for the wreck? I've seen tips on how to navigate the site based on one or two points (brown house, Hotel Laguna; Christian linked me to one such site in a different post), but triangulation would be fantastic. I have the GPS coordinates and a waterproof GPS device, but I think I'd rather not hassle with that item out there.

I'm hoping to do this dive very, very soon (possibly even tomorrow), so help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Isn't the whole point of waterproof gps to be able to hassle with it out there????

:blinking:

I don't know if this is helpful but: What if you used Google Earth to deduce the line-ups from the lat. and long. coordinates?

there's a plane at woods? :O :O

It's not a whole plane... it went down long before I was even born! The engine block is somewherein the shallows on the right side as you look out to sea in about 20 something feet deep. It's covered with growth and pretty hard to tell its even an engine, so I am told. I dont think much else is left... :shakehead

Now, the F4U Corsair at Crystal Cove State Park, that is an awesome plane wreck to dive! :10:

Well, it's "waterproof" to 1 meter and is really only meant to survive if it falls off a boat or something. My plan, if I take it, is to keep it in an Otter Box the entire time and to shove it in my pocket before descent. I just didn't want to worry about losing it or damaging it should the box not handle the pressure it says it should.

Oh well, what the heck. I could always use a new GPS if this one breaks. :)
