I took a picture of a fish I haven't seen before this weekend, in the St. Lawrence River near Brockville. It was about 3 feet long. I believe it's a longnose gar:

Nice catch. I have only seen one of those before.....it was during a night dive on the Rothesay, during the swim back he was poking around in the weeds. No camera at the time though.

Interesting looking fish...really big scales on'em, eh?

Always fun to see something new ;)

Very nice pic!

Took a picture of one 2 or 3 years ago near the Rothesay. I have not seen another one.

They remind me of the trumpetfish in the Caribbean (less flashy colors :D )

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks,

Do you have the picture that you took near the Rothesay online? I'd like to compare them. Someone pointed out that this looks more like a spotted gar than a long-nose gar, and if so, would be unusual to find in the St. Lawrence.

It's not online, but I'll try to post it tonight!

found these, the first one is a longnose gar

and this one is a spotted gar

looks like the longnose doesn't have spots on its nose....hmmmm

I saw one of these in a quarry once...I didn't even know that there were fish that looked like that locally! Was a nice change from the bluegill.
